In a previous post, “What Can You Learn From a Cat About Life Happiness?” I mentioned that my daughter, Natalie, was run over by a pickup truck.
Here’s how it happened.
As Natalie rode eastward on her bicycle and from the sidewalk of busy Garnet Avenue in San Diego, California to cross a small street, she saw that she was about to be struck by a pickup truck. The truck had been westbound on Garnet Avenue before turning left onto that same side street.
When she saw the truck headed towards her, Natalie figured she’d be hit and then get up afterward and be okay.
But that was not to be the case.
The truck hit her bicycle…
Natalie was ejected onto the hood of the truck. Then she fell off and was under the truck. That’s what I remember from the police report.
While under the truck, Natalie was thinking “Bye….I’m gonna die”.
But she wasn’t afraid.
Lying on the pavement under the truck, she felt something lifting and carrying her. She couldn’t feel the ground. An angel saved her.
When I saw her, I was amazed to see there were very few marks on her body.
Her left femur was so broken that she’d had surgery to insert a metal rod to piece the bone parts together. And there was a huge tire track wound on her abdomen.
Other than those major injuries, there were only some minor scrapes on one arm, or maybe it was a shoulder.
But no marks on her back!… even though she went from the hood of the truck to being thrown off and landing on her back.
We are grateful not only to the angel who saved her while under the truck, but also to Randy Valentine who helped her after the truck had run over her.
In spite of his friend’s warnings of the risks of touching blood on a stranger, Randy helped Natalie and prevented her from going into shock.
Thank you, Randy! Are you are a human angel?
So, anyway, back to the story….
An ambulance arrived at the scene of the accident and rushed Natalie to an emergency room in La Jolla. When she arrived at the hospital, she saw the looks on the faces of the medical team.
Their faces said they couldn’t believe she was alive, awake and alert.
The trauma nurse called me and said “She has a tire track on her abdomen, but there are no internal injuries. She’s very lucky.”
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing because Natalie had called me on someone’s cell phone just after the accident to tell me she’d been hit by a truck and that her leg was broken.
She sounded pretty normal. So, I had no idea how serious the accident was. I didn’t know she’d been run over!
When the trauma nurse called me, all I could reply was “She has a tire track on her abdomen?! She was run over?”
I was too shocked to say much more.
So, that was Natalie’s spiritual enlightenment.
Now, what about you?
Have you experienced spiritual enlightenment? Like, maybe, an encounter with an angel?
I’d love to hear about it…
Especially now, while there’s so much bad stuff in the news.

To help you become more spiritually enlightened, ponder the lyrics from my song, ‘Fill My Heart With Love’…
The love of you, my Creator,
brightens my every day.
I can feel your love surround me
every time I pray.

Thank you so much for your kind words, Bob. Just the other day while in the swimming pool with my daughter, I observed that there is now almost no scar on her abdomen…just one very little area that is hard to notice. Doctors told her she would always have a big scar, but she was determined to get rid of it.
So there’s a lesson for us. Believe what you choose to believe and be persistent. Overcome your challenges.
A tire track on the abdomen can shock anyone, not many people get saved like that. Certainly there was a divine intervention. At least once in a lifetime all of us come across some grave situations and from somewhere we get the strength to stand strong. Joyce, you are a blessing because you touch lives, keep up the good work.
My pleasure, Mary!
Thanks for posting 🙂

Hello Joyce,
It’s amazing to have a miracle child,(and she’s a real sweetie).
I also have a miracle child, Charissa, my daughter,
who also happens to be Dan’s Sister.
Natalie sent me the link to your blog, it’s the first blog I’ve ever been on by the way. It seems to me by reading it we have a lot more in common then just kids who are dating. Drop me a line and we’ll get to know each other over e-mail.
Blessed Be,
Ellen
